Brecon progress into the next round of the cup with a resounding win against their plucky neighbours
Ever since the draw was made the tie had been eagerly anticipated by both teams and their supporters, a game watched by a large crowd in near perfect conditions proved to be a classic
Huw Thomas got Brecon off to a perfect start converting a penalty from a difficult angle and settling the nerves in the Brecon side, Gwernyfed responded with their well organised pack using the driving maul to clinch a score mid way through the second half
Gwernyfed increased their lead with a penalty before Brecon scored a well worked try through their centre play maker MOM Tudor Roderick, eight all at the break, a remarkable score line as Brecon had two men in the bin for the last ten minutes of the half, Gwernyfed's failure to score a single point with a two man advantage was to be their down fall, Brecon's thirteen players put in a incredible shift making sure their hosts did not gain from the yellow cards
Second half all to play for Brecon playing down the hill and back to a full compliment of players looked favourites but it was Gwernyfed who got the next score giving them a five point lead the tension was becoming unbearable
Brecon started to win the battle up front and the backs used the ball wisely and were rewarded with a Sam Hellard try in the corner making the scores level,
Gwernyfed cleared the ball from a ruck in their own twenty two, unfortunately for them it went straight to our fullback Dafydd Edwards who did the rest by scoring a magical try, much to the delight of the Brecon supporters who had to endure a final flourish from our neighbours who would not give in until the final whistle blew, which signalled great scenes of delight from a very tired Brecon side
Well done boys it was a huge performance from you all making us all very proud of our team
