Brecon Mini Rugby Tournament 2016

“All Roads Lead to Parc de Pugh”

Since its inception, in 2006, the Brecon Mini Tournament has become the highlight of the season for the Mini Sections of many South Wales Rugby Clubs. Indeed, over the past ten years the Tournament has become the major focus for Mini Rugby followers. For hundreds of young rugby players, families and friends, Easter Monday now means a pilgrimage to Brecon, with all roads leading to Parc de Pugh. There is no doubt that the Tournament continues to thrive because of the foundation built by the hard work and sound organisational skills of its founders. The enthusiasm of those founding members has not waned and the Tournament has continued to grow with this year’s Easter Monday event again attracting over 700 young rugby players.

Looking back at the number of outstanding tournaments it is easy to see why, this year again, there is a great demand for places. The major critical ingredient is the amazing individual skills and team play displayed by every participating club. Side steps, dummies, wonderfully timed passes and crunching tackles will undoubtedly be witnessed once again as the youngsters produce a level of enthusiasm and brand of entertainment that would be difficult to match at any level. It is, therefore, not surprising that sponsors have been willing to add their names to the event and have agreed to back Paul Amphlett and his team of organisers and officials. As in previous years the Tournament will benefit from sponsorship by Christ College and St Nicholas House School, Brecon. Rhion Johnston, Marketing and Communications Manager said: “We are delighted to sponsor what is considered to be the premier mini-rugby tournament in Wales. I am so pleased that we are able to continue with our sponsorship and support package. Many of our current pupils have played in this tournament and indeed continue to represent Brecon RFC in many of the different age groups and we look forward to continue to build on this relationship.”

I am sure that Rhion’s sentiments reflect those of all of the sponsors who will be listed in this year’s Tournament programme.

Tournament organisers are also grateful for the support they have received from the Cardiff Blues Region. In spite of the fact that geographically we are one of the remotest areas of the Region links between the Club and the Region have continued to grow and develop. During the afternoon Blues representatives, coaches and players, will be in attendance and will run a number of skills and coaching sessions. The impression that these outstanding role models make cannot be overstated. Young players look up to them and strive to emulate their achievements. It is not by accident that Brecon RFC continues to make a big impression in the Blues Region. This year Callun James has captained the Blues Under 16’s team and follows in a line of outstanding Brecon players who progressed through the Blues Academy.

While Brecon RFC fully appreciates the support provided by sponsors and the Region, it is the young visiting teams and supporters who pay us the biggest complement as they make their annual Easter pilgrimage to Brecon. As a host Club Brecon RFC wish them all and outstanding day. The organisers hope that we they can provide the opportunity for the players to display their potential and that we ensure that the ultimate winner is the spirit sportsmanship within the great game of rugby.
